Thread Veins

The scleroscant acts to cause slight irritation to the inner lining of the veins injected. This irritation causes the walls to become sticky and when compression is applied the vessel walls stick together and collapse. Once the vessels have collapsed, the body can no longer use them and absorbs them back into the system. As this absorption is a natural process it can take a number of months before the vessels fully disappear.

Sclerotherapy is a procedure for thread veins on legs where the practioner will inject the veins with a solution which is classified as a scleroscant.

Side effects will be discussed in depth at consultation but initially swelling and bruising at the injection sites are to be expected, occasionally brown staining at the site can happen as iron pigment leaks into the surrounding tissues around injection sites, this will gradually improve over time.

Usually between 1 and 4 treatments will be required depending on areas to be treated and severity.

The results are not immediate. The veins look worse before they get better and the treatment may need to be repeated at 4-12 week intervals. Most patients see a 60-80% improvement in the appearance of the veins somewhere between one and four treatments.
